

Mrs. Jeanette Lewis McLain died peacefully on August 24, 2015 surrounded by loved ones. Known as Jeanette, she was also Mom, J, JJ, and Bon-Bon to her immediate family. She lived a full life as a caring wife, mother, sister, friend, and teacher. She was gentle, loving, genuinely sweet, and encouraging to everyone around her. Born in Atlanta on January 26, 1934, Jeanette lived in Atlanta her entire life. After graduating from North Fulton High school, she received her BA in Education from the University of Georgia and taught elementary school until her marriage to James Polk McLain in 1957. In addition to raising four boys, she enjoyed charity work, traveling, wildflowers and spending time with friends and family at her mountain cabin. She was a life-long member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church. Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Lenoir and Jean Reed Lewis; her husband of 51 years, James Polk McLain; and her sister, Nancy Lewis Montet. She is survived by her sons: Tom (Cathy) of Atlanta; Pete (LeVan) of Charlotte, NC; Rod (Shana) of Franklin, TN; and Keith of Roswell, GA. She is also survived by her twelve grandchildren: Catherine (Ryan) Nash, Abby, and Liza; Grace, Isabel, Amani, William, and Habtamu; Anna, Payton, Mia, and Micah; her loving sister, Grace Lewis Humphreys, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, August 29th at H. M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel (173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328, 404-851-9900) with Reverend Dr. Gil Watson officiating. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to Blue Skies Ministries (www.blueskiesministries.org), one of Jeanette’s favorite charities.
