John was born in Cambria Co., PA to John & Mary (Shea) Stossel. He was the oldest of 14 children. He completed 4 years of college at Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon) and the University of Southern California.
He married Susan Aughenbaugh of Cherry Tree, PA in 1962 and celebrated his 63rd wedding anniversary in July. He served 2 years in the Army, and was stationed at Kaiserslautern, Germany. John worked at NCR, Burroughs and Unisys and retired in 2001. He was a member of the Presbyterian church in PA, MD, NC, MI and GA.
He is survived by his wife. They have four children: John (Teodora); Catherine; Kevin (LaDona) - both deceased; and Jennifer (Michael) Caro. They have 5 grandchildren (1 deceased) and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by 9 brothers and sisters.
He enjoyed baseball and played it through the collegiate level. Beginning in his teenage years, he coached Little League baseball in his hometown of Barnesboro, PA. He went on to coach in Germany; Cockeysville, MD; West Bloomfield, MI; and Dunwoody, GA. He worked for Stats for 25 years, scoring games from the press box for the Atlanta Braves.
