

Kent E. Gildersleeve, 65, of Atlanta, died peacefully on January 12, 2013 following a long and valiant fight against Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer. Born in Knoxville, TN, he grew up in Arlington, VA and Bowling Green, KY. He graduated from Western Kentucky University and attended law school at the University of Tennessee. He lived his entire adult life in Atlanta where he held executive positions with several insurance companies before opening his own insurance firm. He was a 14 year member of the Kiwanis Club of Marietta, where he served on the Board of Directors from 2006 – 2008, and was recognized with the Outstanding Kiwanian and Ruby K-10 awards. He chaired the Club’s Safety Committee for the past four years and served on the Policies and Procedures Committee. He was a faithful volunteer every year for the Club’s annual Flag Project which funds their Scholarship Program. He was active for many years in officiating amateur sports activities in the Atlanta area, including Softball Umpires Unlimited. He was a long standing member of the Madison Forum and the Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Scott Warren, and his granddaughter Caroline Warren. He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law Jim and Brenda Gildersleeve and Larry and Kathleen Gildersleeve. A funeral service celebrating his life will be conducted January 17th at 4 PM at H. M. Paterson & Son Arlington Chapel at 173 Allen Road, NE in Sandy Springs. GA. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from 3 PM until the hour of service. A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green, Kentucky at 11:30 AM on January 19th, and will be preceded by a visitation with the family beginning at 10 AM at the J.C.
