

Loyce Miles Sandifer, age 83, passed away on August 10, 2014 at her home in Atlanta. Loyce was born at Atlanta Emory Hospital to Doris and John Miles. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, J. Milton (Spike) Sandifer and their four sons Mark Sandifer and partner Rob Howell, Cliff Sandifer, Paul Sandifer and wife Diane Rickett Sandifer, and John Sandifer. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Paul and Mary Clarke Miles. Loyce was blessed with two dear grandsons, Miles and Parks Sandifer, who love their “Gran” very much. Loyce was a cherished and very active member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta which she joined as a young teenager. At Peachtree Presbyterian she volunteered in many programs, most recently for LIFESPAN which provides a variety of services and assistance for older adults. She was honored as LIFESPAN Resources 2008 Volunteer of the Year. Loyce loved singing, music, reading, and serving others. Scripture and Bible studies were of special interest. With her passion for learning she became a lifelong student and dedicated teacher. She enjoyed her bell collection and participation with the American Bell Association. Loyce grew up in Atlanta attending R.L. Hope Elementary and North Fulton High School, graduating in 1948. She also attended The Crossnore School in Crossnore, NC, during WWII, staying with her beloved grandparents Loyce and Dennis Hackett. Loyce graduated from Texas State College for Women, renamed Texas Women’s University in Denton, TX. She returned to Atlanta to marry Milton Sandifer, raising their sons in their home of 60 years. Loyce worked as a substitute teacher for the Atlanta Public Schools, as a bookkeeper for St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Atlanta, and for many years until retirement with the Rollins Corporation. A memorial service will be held at the Peachtree Presbyterian Church Sanctuary, 3434 Roswell Rd. NW; Atlanta, GA 30305 on Saturday, August 23 at 2:00 PM with a reception following.
