Lucille Evelyn DeLong (Mette), nicknamed Duke after Duke Ellington, and Moo Moo by her grandchildren, was a true Southern lady and native Atlantan. She attended Girls High, retired from the government office of CDC, and continued to work for DeLong Equipment with her husband Harold DeLong, until 2007. With her signature red hair and impeccable sense of style, Duke had a way of lighting up any room she walked into. Harold and Duke were a beautiful couple, and will be remembered for their generosity and wit.
Left behind are two daughters and sons-in-law: Michelle and Marty Myers of St. Catharines, Canada; Renee and Steve Weed of Cumming, Georgia, three grandchildren: Jackson, Brittany and husband Noah; and Stephen and wife Amanda, and two great grandchildren: Stephen and Abigail.
We will be celebrating the life of Duke and Harold on Saturday, the 9th of April at three o’clock in the afternoon at Patterson’s Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center E, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346 or The American Heart Association, 1101 Northchase Parkway, Suite 1, Marietta, GA 30067.
