Mrs Roberts changed my life. She took an awkward three year- old and gave her self confidence and the love of dance. My mother still has every recital photograph ever taken. All the young women of Decatur ,Georgia begged to be taught by Mrs Roberts. I thank her and her Family for sharing her special gift with so many people.

My heart aches for the family of Miss Roberts. I think of all she represented to generations of young women that was fine, strong, and elegant. She instilled many valuable lessons through dance instruction; however, the lessons surpassed the rehearsal rooms and stages to impact all areas of our lives.  She seemed to have a genuine affection for all of her girls.  We in turn had great admiration for her  work ethic, dedication, grace and beauty. ...so that, having been justified by his grace,  we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:7

To the family of Mrs Roberts. I am so sorry for your loss. May you continue to cherish her loving memories. May find comfort in the word of 1John 5:14.

Though I never became a real ballerina, I spent many valuable afternoons with Mrs. Roberts above that ice cream parlor in the 1950's dancing my heart out. She will be missed by many.

I was a Ballet student of Mrs. Roberts in 50s.  She was a mentor, friend and teacher.  She taught us to be "ladies".  I am now 67 and she has been thought of fondly through the years.  I am truly sorry for your loss of such a great "lady". Julie Barnett Parker, Waleska, GA

My sympathy and prayers go out to Mrs.Roberts family. I started ballet with her in 1974 and went on to dance professionally, teach, and now own my own ballet school. I credit all of this to her...she was my advisor, pushed me to be what I am today and was always a listening ear. I will miss her terribly!

I have numerous memories of Ms Roberts and DSB from the 1960's. From making a soup pot and bouncing balls to Abigail and 1st Company performances.  Some of the best memories of my life.  Keep on DANCING!

While I did not get a chance to meet Ms. Roberts, our family has spent many, many hours at the Decatur School of Ballet and Decatur City Dance.  What a legacy she leaves behind.  Thank you for sharing your vision with so many.  May you rest in peace dancing your way through the next journey.  Prayers to the family as they mourn her passing.

I was very fortunate to have learned and studied dance by the direction of Mrs.Marie Roberts in the early 70's.  
She was the most graceful and elegant teacher I ever had.  She taught with much inspiration and hard work. She was an amazing teacher. I will always keep those wonderful memories.

Mrs. Roberts was one of the most important people in my life.  A source of joy and inspiration, she added charm and humor and love to the lives of everyone she came in contact with.  I know her family will miss her, and my prayers for comfort go out for them.

So many memories of Marie.  She taught me to dance and she taught me how to teach dance.  She will always have a special place in my heart.

I learned so much more than ballet from my experiences with Mrs. Roberts and the Decatur School of Ballet. I learned about commitment, discipline, professionalism, and hard work, all of which have contributed to the successes in my life, not as a dancer, but as a scientist and a mother. I also learned a lot about grace under pressure, sharing the spotlight, and being part of a team. And I was just telling the story about Abigail and her curtain to a coworker the other day - such a sweet memory that made me smile. Thank you Mrs. Roberts, for impacting my life in so many positive ways.

Our paths first crossed when I was fortunate enough to start ballet lessons with her at age 12 at the studio behind Wilson's Ice Cream Parlor in Decatur - she was such an inspiration to me at the beginning of my teen-age years and yes, she was so much more to me than my ballet teacher - she was also a "life coach" to all of us in her class. She selected me to be one of her "student teachers" and insisted that I audition to dance with the Decatur Apprentice Company.....much to my surprise I was one of several girls picked to dance with "the company". Mrs. Robert's taught so many of us young girls. Her love of dance and of course "Abigail the ballerina fairy" will live forever through us. I continued to go on to dance, and later opened my own studio in Peachtree Corners, Ga. Yes, the little curtain where Abigail lives was put in my studio too. Her legacy will continue forever. Aunt Marie had a great impact on the lives of thousands of young women, and she and Uncle Everett had a great impact on at least one little boy.  They showed me that no matter whatever cards were dealt you in life, if you worked hard, lived your life with dignity and cared for others, your life would turn out much better than your dreams could forecast and it did.

Your mom taught us so much more about life than just ballet.  Her love, wisdom, and generosity of spirit lives on in the hearts of generations of would-be ballerinas, though most of us grew up to be teachers, doctors, lawyers, business women, wives, and mothers.  I treasure the memories from the years I spent in the ballet company and still often quote your mom to my own children and those I teach. You and your family are in my prayers.

My family has lived behind Marie and Everett since 1970. Thru the years she has spoiled many of my dogs! God bless Everett, Doug and the Roberts family.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

For 30 years, starting in 1973  my mother and I delivered a Christmas ornament to Marie's mailbox every Christmas Eve from her fairy, Abigail. This tradition started when I first made company and continued so long that my daughter, Ansley, enjoyed this secret visit every Christmas as well. Christmas just wasn't Christmas without our secret, special gift to Marie. She would amaze her little bitty dancers with Abigail stories while pretending to see her land on some little girls shoulder. Of course, their eyes would be as round as saucers as they straightened their shoulders and lifted their chins so Abigail wouldn't fall off her throne! Marie would ask everyone if they were Abigail and everyone, including me, denied any knowledge. Eventually, my daughter and I sent Marie an invitation to lunch at Aubergine from Abigail where the big reveal took place. When she walked in and saw it was me, she exclaimed "I knew it all along!"
