A beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Mark is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia “Pattie” Leidgen Jagor; his three children, Mark Jr. (Melissa), Mary Claire (Kyle), Andrew (Shelby), and six grandchildren: Walker (6), Rowan (4), Crosby (2), Mark III “Tripp” (2), Eleanor (6 months), and Margot (6 months), as well as one more granddaughter on the way. He is also survived by his siblings, Rob (Leigh), Carolyn (Jamie), and Tom (Linda) along with many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and their families.
He was warmly welcomed into heaven by his parents, Dr. Bruce Jagor and Roberta “Bobby” Jagor; his sister, Ann; his brother, David; and Pattie’s parents, Jim and Virginia Leidgen.
Born on April 6, 1954, Mark was a lifelong resident of Atlanta. He attended Our Lady of Assumption Catholic School, followed by Marist School. While at Marist, Mark met his wife and soulmate while on a blind date at a football game, where Pattie was a Marist cheerleader. Since the age of 16, Pattie and Mark have been inseparable. After graduating from Marist in 1972, Mark attended the University of Georgia as a proud Bulldawg and member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. Mark and Pattie married in 1978 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Sandy Springs, where they purchased their first home and lovingly raised their three children. As a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church for nearly 40 years, Mark proudly served as an usher and rarely missed a Sunday Mass.
Mark had a successful career spanning 47 years in the insurance business, where he formed lifelong friendships, served as a valuable mentor, and was loved by his clients and colleagues. In 2023, he retired to spend more time with his wife, children, grandchildren, as well as his golf clubs. Mark was a longtime member of Cherokee Town and Country Club, where he spent many years chasing birdies with his family and golf group, the Early Birds. Mark enjoyed reading and traveling, most recently embarking on a two-week river cruise down the Danube with Pattie in October. Mark and Pattie enjoyed many good years in the South Carolina low country, where they relished time spent with their dogs, good friends, and visits from family, while watching sunsets over the marsh together behind their home on Callawassie Island.
Above all, Mark will be remembered as the ultimate family man. He spent summers towing his children, nieces and nephews on tubes at Lake Burton, riding bikes in Hilton Head, building sandcastles and buying shark teeth and t-shirts in Panama City Beach. He coached little league, volunteered at Cherokee swim meets, and never missed a tailgate or parents’ weekend at UGA, Ole Miss or W&L. Mark was adored by his grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as “Grandpa,” “Meepo,” or “BaPa”. He took his role seriously, helping with preschool pick-ups, weekly babysitting, attending every party and school function. He often spent afternoons in the playroom or the backyard sharing the same traditions he shared with his own children.
Mark left a legacy in the lives that he touched that will be cherished and endured for generations.
A funeral Mass to celebrate and honor the life of Mark will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4465 Northside Drive, Atlanta, GA 30327 on Friday, December 19th at 2:30pm, with a reception to follow at Cherokee Town Club, 155 West Paces Ferry Road, Atlanta, GA 30305.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Mark may be sent to Emory Winship Cancer Institute.
