Maxwell Scott Pastor “Max” passed away on November 13th 2022. He was 27 years old. Max was a 2014 graduate of Woodward Academy and a 2019 graduate of Auburn University. Max loved an adventure. Some people dip their toes in and say “How’s the water?" Max ran full speed ahead, jumped in off a cliff and yelled “Hell yeah" on the way down. He loved fishing, camping and kayaking with friends and family. He once caught a sailfish and put it in a kayak off the coast of Florida. While alligator hunting, he jumped into Lake Seminole to harpoon an alligator that could not be reached by boat. He loved St Simons Island, paddling the back waters, and was an expert clammer and crabber. Max loved traveling. One of his happiest times was a trip across Asia, Africa and Europe where he met wonderful friends and had boundless explorations. He was fearless in many ways – going on the trip without knowing a soul and ending it four months later with many new friends.
Max was a great cook (although those who cleaned up after him in the kitchen might have thought otherwise of his culinary efforts), specializing in Asian fare but always delivering what he insisted be a well-plated entree.
He loved food, drink and friends. He loved a team. Growing up, his team was along Peachtree Creek on Battleview Drive where he would run, fish and play with life-long childhood friends, during his high school days it was the wrestling team for Woodward Academy and Circle W where he was a state championship finalist and both an unorthodox and entertaining competitor. At Auburn he found his team in the Sig Ep fraternity – he loved a group effort and being part of it. He loved football - Auburn football and the Falcons too. He loved his family and family gatherings. He commissioned a family fantasy football team and organized a lively competition.
He will be missed fiercely by his parents, Scott and Paige Pastor, siblings Grady and Cricket Pastor, grandparents, Jerry and Diana Pickett, Christa Pickett, Eleanor Pastor, aunts and uncles, Michel Pastor and Sandy Engelke, Robert Pastor, Mark and Liza Pickett, cousins, Cole Engelke, Mary Thomas Pickett Tiller (Gary), Sally Pickett Nash (Ryan), Mills Pickett Sutton (Joiner) and Mark. He is predeceased by his grandfather Robert Pastor, aunt Peggy Pastor and his beloved dog, Gumbo.
A service celebrating Max’s life will be held on Saturday, November 19th at 1:00 pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4465 Northside Drive NW, Atlanta, GA 30327. The family will greet friends and family from noon until 1 at the Church and after the service at a reception at their home.
