Meg was born in Arlington Heights, IL., and moved to Dunwoody, GA as a young child. She graduated from Peachtree High School in 1978 and attended college at Georgia Perimeter College and later at Kennesaw State University. Meg worked in a variety of business and office management roles for several companies in the Atlanta area including Siemens, Upton’s, Casablanca Design Group, Neo, Computer Design and Integration, and Financial Planning Partners. Most recently she served as a part-time bookkeeper for The Creation Companies. She was known for her care, thoughtfulness, and steadiness in each role.
Meg inherited a deep love of dogs from her parents and had many beloved canine companions throughout her life. She enjoyed gardening and was very proud of the lovely home she made for over 20+ years in Woodstock, GA. She loved walking her dogs, tennis with friends, and following her nieces and nephews as they grew up. One of her proudest accomplishments was completing the 60 mile, 3-day Breast Cancer Walk in 2005. She enjoyed going to the beach and gatherings with family and friends, especially around holidays.
She faced many health challenges during her later years including Parkinson’s Disease. But she will be remembered for her fierce independence, honesty, generosity, and warm sense of humor with her father’s impish smile and raised eyebrows.
Meg loved her family and is survived by her brother, David Johns; sisters, Beth Tarkington (Bob), Martha Carpenter (Jeff Olsen), Trevor Paschal (Zan); nieces and nephews, Richard Johns (Marisa), Jennifer Edwards (Trevor), Broc Carpenter (Megan), Charlie Paschal, and Makenzie Dabbs (Riley). She was predeceased by her mother and father, Lois Geraldine and Richard Hartley Johns.
Memorial Services will take place on Saturday, June 20th at 12:00 PM at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, 805 Mount Vernon Hwy, Atlanta, GA 30327. A reception will follow the service.
