Norma Agnes (Hocke) Box, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and loyal friend, entered eternal life on Sunday, December 10, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia, surrounded by her loving family.
Norma was born on March 20, 1942, to Norma Elize (Blancq) and Bernard Joseph Hocke, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is an alumna of Mount Carmel Academy, class of 1960. Norma graduated from Louisiana State University, in 1964, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. She began her career at Charity Hospital, in New Orleans, as a Medical Technologist in the hospital laboratory. In 1965, she met the love of her life, George Lee Box. They were married in 1966 and immediately started a family, while living in New Orleans. In 1974, they moved to Marietta, Georgia. Norma made many friends during the seven years they lived in Marietta and remained close to those friends throughout her life. In 1981, the family moved to Great Falls, Virginia. Norma embraced all of the exciting aspects of living in the Washington D.C. area and often opened her home to family and friends from around the world. In 1994, Norma and George moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and in 1996, they moved to London, England, returning to Atlanta at the end of the year. Norma fearlessly embraced every opportunity life presented to her. She never passed up an opportunity to be involved in her local community. While living in Atlanta, she was a member of the Vinings Village Womans Club, numerous book clubs, investment clubs, and Bible studies, and was an active parishioner of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Norma taught RCIA for 25 years and through her passionate faith, she inspired many men and women to deepen their faith.
Norma is survived by her son, George Christopher Box, daughter, Gretchen Lee (Box) Riviere (David), grandchildren, Alaina Margaret, Samuel Adam, and Addie Grace Riviere, brothers, Bernard Claude Hocke and Kenneth Albert Hocke, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who adored Norma. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years, George Lee Box, and her parents, Norma Elize (Blancq) and Bernard Joseph Hocke.
Norma was a beautiful woman that loved fiercely and passionately for her family and friends. She was a bright light that radiated kindness and love. She had a clever and witty sense of humor that could bring a room to laughter in a flash. She inspired, cared for, and loved her family and friends. Her compassionate heart and snappy sense of humor will be missed by all.
A memorial Mass for Norma will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4465 Northside Drive, NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30327, followed immediately by burial in the Memorial Garden. A reception will follow in McDonough Hall. There will be a Rosary service at 9 a.m. in the church.
