Pat was born on March 9, 1944 in Baltimore MD, the son of Catherine (Kitty) McGarry and Vincent (Mac) McMahon. He grew up in Atlanta and attended Marist School, as did his father, brother, daughters, and several nieces and nephew. He earned undergraduate degrees at GA Tech in Industrial Engineering and Georgia State University in Political Science; an MBA at GSU, and his law degree from the Univ. of Georgia. In 1977, he married Mary Elizabeth Barker and built a life full of love, laughter, and loving memories with her and their two daughters, Katie and Megan – the loves of his life.
After working for Delta Air Lines for 8 years, Pat became a criminal defense attorney for the majority of his legal career and was known for his unfailing integrity. He was also very involved with various ministries at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, Kairos prison ministry, Dunwoody Rotary Club, and Marist School where he announced all the home football games before he became sick. He loved sports – excelled at all and loved coaching his daughters’ teams – as well as backpacking, hiking, and reading. His ‘happy place’ was Perdido Key, FL.
Pat will be remembered for his loyalty and dedication to everyone and everything he cared about, his humor, and for offering a hand to all who needed it. He never met a stranger.
Pat is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth, his daughters LCDR Katie McMahon and Megan Weaver (John), grandchildren Liam and Eloise, his sisters Jeanne Nangle and Cathy McMahon-Fowlkes (Kelley), sister-in-law Diane McMahon, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Garry McMahon.
Visitation will be held 5:30-7:30PM Sunday, July 20 at HM Patterson & Son Arlington (Sandy Springs), preceded by the Rosary at 5PM. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church on Monday, July 21 at 10AM with a reception following there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the E. Vincent McMahon ‘31 Memorial Scholarship at Marist School, 3790 Ashford-Dunwoody Rd, Atlanta 30319.
Pat will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
