

Richard Kalmine Paradies passed away on April 23, 2017. Born September 10, 1951, in Atlanta, Georgia, he grew up in New York City and Coral Gables, Florida, where he attended Coral Gables High School. He graduated from the Cheshire Academy in Connecticut, attended Boston University and graduated from Oglethorpe University. He is survived by his son Logan Paradies and brother Jed Paradies. He was a kind, generous and loving father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
He was Vice President of Loss Prevention at the Paradies Shops founded by his father Dan Paradies before he left to pursue his passion for vintage watches. He became a world expert in vintage and fine watches and vintage firearms, and was relied upon for his canny advice in acquiring and disposing of fine and vintage watches. At his death, he was a partner in a fine watch business in Munich, Germany.
He also served 24 years with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Reserve where he was a Deputy Chief, coordinating and providing voluntary security services to numerous charitable organizations in Fulton County. He provided security services and humanitarian relief to New Orleans victims of Hurricane Katrina, and he served as a firearms instructor with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.
He generously supported numerous charities, including the Zaban-Paradies Couples Center and the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange. Tony Cochran, board chair of the Zaban-Paradies Couples Center said, “Rick generously donated to the Center for many years, desiring to help homeless couples make their lives better. Rick’s generous spirit and kindness will never be forgotten.”
Rick was a loving father to Logan, a caring brother to Jed, and a wonderful uncle to Julia, Jacob, and Siena Paradies. Services will be held on Sunday, April 30, at 1:00 p.m. at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mount Vernon Hwy, NW, Atlanta, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zaban-Paradies Couples Center, 1605 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, GA 30309.
