

Robert "Bob" Louis Pennock, Sr., 94 of Atlanta died December 25TH, 2014 at 1:12 P.M. He passed peacefully alongside his loving wife of 50 years Jean Pennock and his children. A veteran of the U.S. NAVY he served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII as Chief Aviation Ordnanceman on The USS Princeton - a turret gunner on torpedo flight Squadron 23. Born in Fort Worth, Texas on May 10, 1920, Bob played professional football for the San Diego Bombers of the Pacific Coast Professional Football League. During his football career he played alongside Jackie Robinson as part of a College All-Star team in California. His last professional football game was December 7, 1941, in Los Angeles after which he enlisted into the NAVY. Following his service he moved to Atlanta in 1945 and began his career in the furniture business representing Johnson-Carper, Singer, Bassett, Hooker, Sam Moore, Paoli, and Tradewinds Partners. Bob was a life member of the Capital City Club and enjoyed golf and playing bridge in the Wednesday/Friday men's group. Bob is survived by his wife Jean Pennock, Atlanta; Marylyn Pennock Kelley (Gene), Marietta; Robert Pennock, Jr. (Lori), New York; Jan Turner Fitzgerald (Henry), Atlanta; Pam Turner Roben, Greenville, SC; Lisa Turner Willingham (Steve), West Jefferson, NC. Also known as Granddaddy "Boom" he is survived by seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Bob was patriotic and loved family, home, friends, football, and John Wayne movies. A graveside service will be held at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt Vernon Hwy, NW, Sandy Springs, on Sunday, December, 28TH, at 2:30 P.M. Visitation and reception will be at the Capital City Club Brookhaven will follow from 4 PM to 6 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the U.S.O. or Wounded Warrior Project.
