

Ruth Louise Montgomery, 51 of Atlanta, died January 9, 2016. Ruth was born in Chicago and was moved to the suburbs in a basket under the dashboard of a VW bus. Transplanted into Michigan in 1978 she participated in Forensics (Storytelling), Outdoors Club and youth group activities. She was also proud of her Elementary Education Bachelor degree from Michigan State University, where she enjoyed the sisterhood of Alpha Gamma Delta. Upon graduation, she moved immediately to Atlanta for a teaching position and subsequent Master's Degree in Special Education, which in turn led her to an opportunity to teach for two years with Back to God Ministries in Uganda. For many years Ruth was an active member of Peachtree Presbyterian Church where she was one of the founding members of their global mission ministry Her first mission trip was building homes with Habitat for Humanity in Northern Ireland and she was a faithful volunteer for many years with Habitat Atlanta. Ruth also was part of two mission teams to Lahore, Pakistan where she led teacher-training workshops for Christian teachers in Presbyterian Education Board schools. If you knew her at all, you knew her twin passions for serving the Lord and Scrabble. Ms Montgomery was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Parker Montgomery and is survived by her father, John C. Montgomery; sisters, Sarah Kingham (Phil) and Rachel West (Marty); and nephews and nieces Sawyer, Madeline, and Camille West and Becca and Mark Kingham, whom she adored. She spent her last 6 months in a very special relationship with Bing Oliver. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road, Atlanta, GA, 30305, directed to their Habitat for Humanity house build. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 1 o’clock in the sanctuary at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, with visitation from 2-4.
