Born in Richmond, Virginia on August 27, 1951, Suzanne lived a life shaped by intellect, creativity, compassion, and deep devotion to family. She attended The Westminster Schools in Atlanta and later graduated from Mount Holyoke College with a Bachelor’s degree in English before earning her Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of West Georgia.
In her youth, Suzanne performed with the Atlanta Ballet and began a lifelong love of literature, art, learning, and social justice. In the 1970s and beyond, she embraced the values of curiosity, compassion, and civic engagement, participating in marches on Washington and remaining deeply thoughtful about the world around her.
Suzanne’s professional life reflected both her intelligence and her care for others. Over the years she taught English at an alternative school, worked in inpatient psychology, and later spent more than fifteen years as the Webmaster for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - STI Prevention Unit before retiring.
An avid reader throughout her life, Suzanne especially loved the poetry of Emily Dickinson and could often be found immersed in books spanning nearly every genre imaginable.
Suzanne shared 45 years with her beloved husband, Arthur J. Haecker III, and deeply mourned his passing last November. She is survived by her stepson, Arthur IV (Allyss); her sons, Matt (Amanda), Nathaniel, and Patrick (Sabre); her grandsons, Bryan and Kai; and many extended family members.
Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now reunited with Art and her parents, Ralph and Gwendolyn (Farrar) Beck.
A funeral service celebrating Suzanne’s life will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at H.M Patterson & Son - Arlington Chapel in Sandy Springs, with visitation at 10 a.m., service at 11, and burial at Arlington Memorial Park to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Suzanne’s memory to SisterLove, Inc., an Atlanta-based organization supporting women’s health, reproductive justice, and public health advocacy.
