Thomas E. Matia, 86, of Dunwoody, died August 18, 2012. Mr. Matia graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1948. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1955 where he received the WWII Victory Medal, Navy Occupational Medal, Korean Service Medal, and U.N. Medal. While in the Navy he was proud to have served on the aircraft carrier USS WASP. Mr. Matia retired at age 85 from his private accounting firm. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Theresa Matia; sons, Andrew T. Matia (Mary), Mark Matia (Martha), Paul M. Matia, Ted Matia, Robert Matia; 13 grandchildren; brother, Jim Matia; and sisters, Ann Marie Watson, Marge Chluda. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Saint Vincent de Paul Society, 7171 Glenridge Dr., Sandy Springs, GA 30328. A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 12 o’clock at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 o’clock at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
