Timothy Andrew Hayes died on August 1, 2024. He was born in Springfield, Il on March 28, 1946 to Clara Donelan and Lt Col. Howard Hayes. Tim was a gifted and determined athlete and developed an affinity for basketball early in life, playing in elementary school and then as a leader on his team at Griffin High School. He played basketball at Springfield Junior College and later the University of Michigan, where he majored in Economics. He received his MBA from the University of Illinois - Urbana - Champaign. He moved to Dunwoody with his family in the mid 80s. Tim had several early jobs in insurance but soon found his way to technology sales and was a leading salesman at several firms.
Tim loved his family above all else, especially his wife of 26 years, Felicia Speetjens, his daughter Kathleen (Bryan) Anderson and their 3 children Hayes, Cole and Julia Anderson and his daughter Amy Hayes. He cherished being part of a large family, including his brothers John (Neva) Hayes of Denver, CO, David Hayes of Denver, CO, Howard (Barbara) Hayes of Lewiston Id, Col. Dennis (Linda) Hayes of Springfield, IL and sister Ellen (Roger) Kumle of Springfield IL. He will be warmly remembered by his surviving siblings and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Tim continued his athletic pursuits for his entire life, enjoying tennis, skiing, running and he was a well known figure at the YMCA. He enjoyed travel, the beach, hiking, music and theater, but most of all people. He especially enjoyed kids and senior citizens. Tim cherished his grandchildren and played an active role in their lives. He coached 7th and 8th grade boys basketball teams over a span of 40 years in Springfield and Atlanta. For over 30 years he visited several assisted living facilities weekly as a Eucharistic Minister, spending one on one time with residents of all faiths and after retiring from his sales career, ran group sessions to engage the residents in life. For friends and strangers alike, he was always available to help someone in need.
Tim and Felicia would like to thank all of the friends and neighbors who made life enjoyable the last few years. Whether it was a wave, a handshake, a visit or tasty treats, it was always greatly appreciated and enriched our lives. Words cannot express the impact of your kindness. A special thanks to Sharna Jackson Harris, George Coleman and Judy Favara, who helped Tim engage in life over the last year.
