OBITUARIO

Timothy Stephen Kennedy

7 diciembre , 195719 mayo , 2020

Tim Kennedy passed away suddenly on Tuesday May 19, 2020. Born December 7, 1957 in Charleston, SC and survived by his wife Margo Fagan Kennedy. Tim was a devoted husband and loving father, equally blessed with intellect, graciousness, unfailing integrity, and most of all, a great sense of humor.

Tim graduated from the College of Charleston, completing his degree in two years while working at a full-time job. Upon completion of his degree, he pursued a career in sales and marketing, beginning at Beecham Products and ending a position as Vice President-Business Development at Nielsen Marketing Research, a subsidiary of the Dun and Bradstreet Corporation. In 1987, he entered the travel business and purchased his first travel agency in LaGrange, Georgia. Within two years, he bought out his partner and devoted himself full time to the travel agency business. He was able to grow a small leisure agency into a major player in the corporate travel world. In May of 2016, he sold his company to Travel Leaders Corporate. Being a true entrepreneur, he purchased another agency in Michigan, and once again became a Travel Leaders Associate member. Over the past 26 years, Tim served on various advisory boards within the travel industry, spoke at both regional and national meetings to share industry best practices, and has been featured in both local trade publications and on national television as a representative expert of the travel industry. In 2012, he received the Travel Leaders Golden Legacy Lifetime Achievement Award. Tim was naturally a mentor throughout his career and lifetime, freely sharing his business knowledge and expertise. Most recently, he served as a mentor in the College of Charleston MBA program, as well as on the MBA program’s advisory board. Tim’s greatest treasure was his family. He loved teaching, guiding, and spending time with his wife and children, imparting his view of the world. From coaching his children in church soccer leagues to community track clubs, he was always inspiring his children and peers in the joy of all sports, especially running. Tim was an accomplished athlete, having run 37 marathons, from 2 Boston Marathons, to the Midnight Sun in Alaska, and to placing in his age group in the Sunburst Marathon in South Bend, Indiana. Tim was known as “coach” to many of his friends. Margo and Tim not only traveled the world but also led a life of adventure, from a hot air balloon ride in Turkey, to a glider ride in Maine, to a submarine ride in Dubai, and to attending the Kentucky Derby and the Country Music Awards. Tim chose to live and enjoy everything life had to offer.

Tim will be greatly missed by family and lifelong friends. He is survived by his wife, Margo, their three children, and daughter and son-in-law: Graham and Jessica Kennedy of Charleston, Mackenzie and James Sullivan of Houston, and Forrest Kennedy of Charleston. He is also survived by his sister Angela Arsenault of Charleston, Philip Kennedy of Virginia, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Donations in Tim’s honor may be made to the following charities, both of which have a mentoring component important to Tim. Margo I was so happy to have the time on the phone with you weeks ago after the sudden passing away of Tim. I feel horribly for both you and the family as I know how much you all loved him. As I expressed to you over the phone Tim was a dear friend and a mentor . Tim as you know was my boss and District Manager during my first move in Corporate America in February 1984. Tim spent a lot of time working with me and helping me grow as a young manager at Beecham. I will never forget the many sales calls, nights on the road and Detroit Piston games we spent together for over 3 years. Tim made learn, work hard, laugh and have fun during his 3 years as my boss and mentor. Running with Tim on the road, training for the Detroit Marathon with him was special and the marathon experience one of the most rewarding to me in my life. I will never be able to run again and not think of Tim. I also relished the many events and parties you and Tim spent with Barbara Jean and I. You both were perfect together. I would love to see you and the family in the fall or whenever is the right time in the future. In the meantime I know Tim is looking down from Heaven smiling and so very proud of you and all the family. He will be missed but never forgotten by all those who were lucky enough to spend part of their lives with him. Scott

Margo
Tim Kennedy was such an accomplished entrepreneur who I was privileged to know and respect greatly, for 20 plus years. Not only was Tim extremely successful in the Travel Industry but he was also a very modest person with little ego who was prepared to share his knowledge and expertise of the Travel Industry with so many people. Tim will be greatly missed by everyone he had contact with and including myself. He was truly a special friend as well as a business acquaintance.

My thought and prayers to you Margo and your Family

Tim was first a client and then became a friend. Tim was always happy and a delight to be around. His success in the Travel Business was commendable and his willingness to share his success with others who looked up to him. While working with him we had the privilege of hosting Tim and Margo on the Curt C - Mr Carlson's yacht in the Inner Harbor of Florida and he was always greatful for anything that you did for him.
Margo and family my heart goes out to you! Hugs and Prayers as you hold Tim's memories dear to your family.

After I met Tim about 20 years ago he was always a good friend to me. He was there with his guidance and inspiration to help me with my business or anything else in life. He was very attentive and listened to anything I had to say and that is no small feat. He was a true gentleman. Some of the best times in my life were with Tim and Margo on our travels, whether it was a cooking school in Jordan or a bus ride in Japan or Israel. It was always a blast and Tm always kept us laughing. We will all miss him. Margo please know you and your family are constantly in my thoughts.

My last memory of Tim was having breakfast with him, Tim Fredrick (Delta) and Rebecca Naugler at a Travel Leaders meeting. Your Tim was telling Tim F. about a young man he was mentoring, and what a good candidate he would be for a position with Delta. Before the breakfast was over, Tim F. told your Tim to have the person contact him. I walked away from that breakfast thinking what a nice man your Tim was, thinking of others and trying to give a young man a head start in life with a great company like Delta – and how lucky the young man was to have your Tim in ‘his corner’. He will definitely be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Kathy Davig

Words simply cannot express how I and all our colleagues at Travel Leaders feel about Tim’s loss. He was simply an exemplary person - strong, intelligent, determined, persuasive in the most charming and understated way and most of all respected and trusted because of his impeccable character and integrity. You would never find a better person to be associated with or lucky enough to call a friend.
Our thoughts are with Margo and the Kennedy family as well as the many other people who had the privilege to know him. We will all miss you Tim.
