

Virginia Whitten Marshall, age 94, of Atlanta, GA went to be with the Lord on April 29, 2015. She was the widow of Prevost (Nick) Marshall of Anderson, SC, San Antonio, TX, and Atlanta, GA who died in 2010. They had been married for 71 years. Virginia (Ginny) was the mother of Lyman W. (Caihong) Marshall of San Diego, CA and John C. (Jill) Marshall, of Atlanta, GA. She was the grandmother of Danae (George) Brooker, and Jordan Marshall of San Diego, CA and Brett Marshall, of Vista, CA, Jeff (Elizabeth) Marshall of San Francisco, CA and John T. (Ling) Marshall of Atlanta, GA. She had five great-grandchildren: Marshall and Malia Brooker, and David, Logan and Jackson Marshall. She also is survived by daughter-in-law Margaret (Peggy) Koenig Marshall.
Virginia (Ginny) was born in Lewiston, Maine on July 17, 1920. She was the daughter of Louis O. (Whit) and Carolyn (Carly) Ingram Whitten. She graduated from Sarasota High School, Florida and attended Tennessee State Teachers College. After she married, she moved often with her husband Nick, who early in their married life was in the U.S. Air Force. For most of her adult life she was a stay-it-home mom and devoted wife. They retired in Ft. Worth, TX, where they lived for eighteen years, and then they lived in Highlands, NC for fourteen years. Finally, they moved to the retirement complex of USAA Towers (The Towers) in San Antonio, TX, where they lived for eighteen years. Nick and Ginny moved to the Belmont Village Assisted Living facility in Atlanta in 2008.
Ginny participated in various activities and charities, along with being an active member in the Air Force Wives Clubs. She served as President of the Officers’ Wives Club at Carswell AFB, TX. She taught Bible study classes in numerous locations, and was most fond of the Interfaith Prayer Fellowship group that she founded while living in Ft. Worth, TX. In addition to Bible study, Ginny loved to cook, play bridge and travel. She was an exceptional wife and mother, devoted to God and to her family. She was an inspirational, loving and patient friend to all, and called “mother-in-love” by her daughters-in-law. She particularly was renowned for her sense of humor and positive leadership. She will be missed greatly by her family and many friends.
Graveside services and internment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
