

William Bennett Bullock of Atlanta, Georgia, died at his home on Thursday evening, January 29, 2015 at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Judith Dickerson Bullock, and his daughter, Caroline Bullock Lambert. He died of complications from a long illness, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, on June 14, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents Thurman Monroe and Ida Sue Long Bullock of Roanoke Rapids and Seaboard, North Carolina, and by his brother, Dr. Thurman Monroe Bullock Jr., of Chadbourn, North Carolina.
Bill graduated from North Carolina State University in 1957 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering with an Aeronautical Option. He received an MS in Management from the Sloan School of Management at MIT in 1970. In 1957 he joined Lockheed Georgia in Marietta and began a career in aircraft manufacturing that lasted 43 years. His positions in engineering planning, marketing and sales, program management, operations, and executive management took him from Marietta to Burbank, Boston, Paris, Fort Worth, and London. In 2000, he retired as the President of Lockheed Martin Aeronautical Systems, Marietta, Georgia. He had a long and intimate association with some of the great military and commercial airplanes of the 20th century: Jetstar and Jetstar II, C-130, C-141, C-5A, C-5B, F-22 and F-35.
In the community, Bill held leadership positions with Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church and School, serving as the Senior Warden of the Vestry and Executive Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
All who knew and loved him described him as an exceptionally selfless, kind, loving, fun, generous, and brilliant man with unmatched courage, dignity, and integrity. He was a passionate sailor, a lover of music, and a mentor to many. He was a beautiful man and he will be missed.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church, 805 Mt. Vernon Highway, Atlanta, Georgia 30327. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, Sandy Springs, Georgia 30328. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church or Holy Innocents' Episcopal School, 805 Mt. Vernon Highway, Atlanta, Georgia 30327.
