

William Lee “Bill” Doak, 85, of Dunwoody, passed away surrounded by family on April 6, 2016 after a long struggle with liver cancer. Bill was born in Pittsburgh, PA to Emma Lee Grimes Doak and Hoyt B. Doak on November 14, 1930. He graduated high school from Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, TN where he excelled academically and was on BGA’s football team. Bill went on to graduate from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. He also proudly served for the US Air Force at Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta. Bill was a mechanical engineer for over 30 years for various firms including Dravo and Sandwell Inc. He was a true gentleman, kind hearted and selfless, always putting others first. Bill was a beloved football coach for many years at Murphy Chandler Park where he made lifelong friends. He enjoyed sports and cheering for the Falcons, Braves, UGA and his Alma Mater “Vandy.” Bill was preceded in death by his son, Steven Lee Doak; daughter, Catherine Ann Doak; brothers, John H. Doak, Hoyt B. Doak, Jr.; and sister, Dorothy D. Hahn. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jane Rodenberg Doak; daughter, Julie Doak Abboud and son-in-law, Scott Abboud; daughter-in-law, Tricia D. Morris and son-in-law, Jay Morris; grandchildren, Ben Doak, Alan Doak and wife, Elizabeth M. Doak, Tommy Doak, Jason Morris, Caroline Abboud, Steven Abboud; and great granddaughter, Kaky Doak. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Sunshine (programs for children with cancer) 1850 Clairmont Rd, Decatur, GA 30033. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
