

Mr. William H. Martin, 84 of Atlanta, Ga., passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones Thursday, August 11, 2011. Bill was born in Lincolnton, Ga. and grew up in Athens, Ga. He served in the Navy in World War II and graduated from the University Of Georgia with a degree in business. During his career he founded and operated numerous companies in the wholesale furniture and appliance industry including Chas. S. Martin Distributing Company, Inc. and Mayo Wholesale Furniture Company. He co-founded and served as President of Kennesaw Memorial Park, Inc. in Marietta. In addition to his business endeavours, Bill was active in The Rotary Club and was a former board member of Northside United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Cherokee Town & Country Club and the Atlanta Athletic Club for many years. Bill is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Starr Martin; Sons, William H. Martin, Jr. and Richard S. Martin; daughters in law, Lee Ann Martin and Suzanne Ward Martin; grandchildren, William Matthew Martin, Kelly Ann Martin-Wallach, Katherine Frances Martin, Richard Starr Martin, Jr. and Charles Ward Martin. The memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday August 14, 2011 at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, Ga. 30328. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory to Northside United Methodist Church, 2799 Northside Drive NW, Atlanta, Ga. 30305.
