The glory of the great wide open. And finding ways to push it beyond imagination. That was the life of Calvin Carlton McWhorter. A genuine cowboy and a free spirit, "Cal's" life started in July 1937 when he was born to Calvin Houston McWhorter and Tommie Opal in Seymour, Texas. Raised on the Waggoner Ranch, he attended Lockett Schools in Texas and served in the U.S. Army. A rancher, A pilot. A tradesman. A horseman. A television man. Cal was all of these things. From the sound stages of Hollywood, to the Osmond Studios in Utah to making dreams come true as Disney launched film productions in Florida, Cal played a role in all of those things as a creator, mentor and stage manager. Through it all, his love of quarter horses, ranching, being at one with the land he loved so much was always there. His sense of humor. His contagious smile. His no nonsense approach to life and down to earth personality drew many, adult and child alike, to him. Perhaps the most cherished things in his life were his family. Cal married Irene F. Olivas in April of 1972 in Las Vegas, Nev., who survives him, as do his three daughters: Leticia Meibos (Jerry) of Provo, Karen McWhorter of Palm Springs, Calif.; and Stephanne Rosenblum (James) of Debary, Florida. His grandchildren: Eric Meibos (Elizabeth), Natalie Meibos, Alex Meibos (Carolyn), Matthew Meibos ,Calvin Rosenblum, Jonah Rosenblum, Broderick Rosenblum and two great granddaughters. Brothers; Edward (Yvonne) preceded him in death;surviving brothers William (Dorothy) of Las Cruces,N.M., Larry (Lorena) of Big Springs,Texas, Tommy Dale (Mary) of Argyle, Texas, Jerry (Sandra) of Greenville, Texas and a number of beloved nieces and nephews. Cal was a true cowboy whose legacy of wisdom, integrity and generosity will be among the most lasting memories for those who knew him and loved him.
