You were just one special kind of person. Truly a good man and friend. Loved by all who knew you.

Missing a great mentor and friend. Everyone loved John RIOS. ❤️🙏

“Rios” was  a one of the greatest men in our lives.  We met  years ago in Greenpoint at Foggy’s bar where Richie Mel played softball with him for many years. After softball games all the wives and children would have a BBQ   We were a tight-knit group of friends and he was  genuinely loved. He was funny and caring and eventually took on the job of leading the softball teams. We called him months back and had a long conversation and reminisced .We are so grateful for that. Godspeed our “Rios”

Thank you for being an amazing grandfather. I’m blessed to have had you for 31 years of consistent presence in my life. You taught me the driving is seeing, that it’s never appropriate to be out past seven without a man and that it’s REALLY going to take someone special for me to want to marry them.

I’ll miss your laugh, I’ll miss your wittiness, I’ll miss the way you expressed how insanely proud you were of your grandchildren and the adults we’ve turned out to be. Jordan will forever remember you as purposely forgetting his name and calling him “Larry”!

There are so many memories of you shadowed by sadness and grief right now. I’m sure with time and healing, I’ll look back on them and smile ear to ear.

i hadn't seen John in decades but he was a big part of my life in my late teens and 20's and 30's growing up in Greenpoint...i ran track for him, played softball with him and for him, and shared many a cerveza with him at Foggy's...
i always thought of him as the Mayor of Greenpoint for some reason because he knew everybody and about everything and had a presence about him...
he was a kind, caring gentle man...RIP...

Our deepest condolences go out to Jenny and the family.  John was truly a one-of-a-kind guy.  His legacy includes being a Greenpoint  Brooklyn icon - he was both a sweetheart and a tough guy all rolled into one.   Although he has gone on to his heavenly reward, he will live on in our memories forever.    

My deepest condolences go out to the Rios family. I have such vivid memories of Johnny, I grew up living right next door to  Jenny & Johnny, Junior  & Bobby in Greenpoint. Johnny was a funny man always had a joke to tell. He was kind and always looked out for the kids on the block.  There were lots of fun parties and he was a great host! I will always cherish those memories. Rest in eternal peace.

If I didn't know better I'd say Frank Sinatra will be at the funeral tomorrow.

A Well respected Landmark in Greenpoint for young and old.
"When John Rios spoke people listened." Polish ,Puerto Rican etc.
He's someone that people who hear his name say "I knew him."
When I hear his name I stop and think how much he taught me in softball and as a person. And how LUCKY I was to know him.

My earliest memory of Tio Johnny was that even if Papa[his brother] put me in time out I could always count on him to make me laugh telling stories and effectively being my get-out-jail free card..

John Rios
Was a man who was liked and loved by all who knew him.  He had a way about him that made you feel good inside.  His sense of humor made better sad times. I will miss him, but his memory will always be with me.
