

Sanford, FL – Mary Maros Voorhees, 92, of Sanford, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 12, 2015. Mary was born in Wheeling, WV, on August 17th, 1922 to Nicholas Paul and Theophany Sacurides Maros. She graduated from Wheeling High School and later worked at Wheeling Stamping. She loved music, dancing, picnics at Oglebay Park, swimming and Sunday Drives. On March 17th, 1946 she married 1stLT DeLloyd Voorhees in Wheeling, WV. Mary was a wonderful homemaker who cared deeply for her family. She enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables and bargain shopping. She was an excellent seamstress and her many titles included Den Mother, Sunday school teacher, PTA member, church choir mother, Lady Elk and dedicated military wife and mother. She was the number one fan and supporter of her husband and her three sons and never missed an event. She considered her daughter-in-law Connie as a daughter and was grateful for her love and caring. Mary is survived by her sons DeLloyd (Connie) Voorhees, Jr (Florida) and Thomas (Iowa); sister Theodora Kontras (Ohio); three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband (Major DeLloyd Voorhees); son Nicholas; and her sisters Angelina Varlas and Anastacia Klebe. Mary’s family wishes to thank the staff at the Atria at Lake Forest and Vitas Hospice Care who made our mother so comfortable in her final hours.
