

In Memory of Valentine Hendricks Valentine (“Val”) N. Hendricks passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 in Lake Mary Florida at the age of 81. Since moving from the U.S. Virgin Islands in 1990, Val and his beloved wife Carol, have made Lake Mary their home. Val was born in Manhattan, New York on Valentine’s Day 1935. However, he spent most of his life on the beautiful island of St. Thomas, from the time he was a young boy until his retirement from the VI Government. He is survived by his wife Carol Hendricks, son Vancito Hendricks and Daughter in Law, Shirla Ransom-Hendricks; his Daughters, Celicia (Hendricks) Wallace, and Patrice Hendricks; and grandsons Brandon and Nicholas Wallace. Aside from his immediate family, Val is known and cherished by extended family and friends. Val served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1957, including a tour in Korea where he earned several medals for his distinguished service. Upon leaving the military, he began a career with the Virgin Island Government, where he worked in many branches of the administration until he retired in 1989. An avid exercise enthusiast, Val enjoyed watching and playing many sports including, boxing, basketball, softball and tennis. It was customary to see him running daily most mornings or evenings. He also loved swimming at several of the island’s beaches. He taught his children and grandchildren to be strong swimmers as well. Val was a firm believer in physical fitness and never went a day without a good workout. Val always enjoyed working on projects around the house, spending time with his family, traveling and building relationships. He established his reputation by being a man of his word and believed in the value of a firm handshake. Val will be missed dearly by his family, friends and all those who knew and loved him. His celebration of life/memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, in Lake Mary, Florida. An additional service will be held for friends and family in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, at a later date and time to be announced.
