

He was born March 20, 1942 in Huntington, West Virginia, to James S. and Sarah D. Back. He was big brother to little sister, Kay. After his parents moved to Florida, he became a lifelong resident. He attended Duncan U. Fletcher High School in Jacksonville Beach, Florida where he played tuba in the band. He was with the Fire Department for Atlantic Beach, Sanford, Kennedy Space Center, and Walt Disney World, and worked in electrical and electronics following his career in the fire department.
His early hobbies included the CB Radio Club, and flying R/C Planes, both in Sanford, Florida, and later in Orlando, Florida, all things Star Trek, a proud “Trekkie” as Capt. Bill Back, attending Star Trek conventions in full uniform.
He met his wife, Barbara, at Sterling Court, Deltona, Florida, a senior living facility, in 2017 and they married October 19, 2018 and enjoyed senior activities together.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; daughter Betty Kay (Rusty) Czajkowski; son William F. (Terri Tyree) Back; son Brian K. (Sara) Back; daughter Melissa M. Smith; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and two nieces.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, sister, son (James D. “Jimmy” Back), and grandson (Russell “Shane” Czajkowski).
The funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Baldwin-Fairchild Oaklawn Chapel and Cemetery in Sanford, Florida with Rev. Dr. Fernando Morales officiating.
