May 17, 1922-June 17, 2016
Agnes (Nancy) Smith McCormack Jameson, a long-time resident of Orange, Calif., died Wednesday at Spring Hills Assisted Living Facility, in Lake Mary, Florida. She was 94. Known to family and friends as “Nancy,” she was a loving mother, devoted wife and cherished friend. She leaves behind two children, two grandchildren, and a sister. Born in Gourock, Scotland on May 17, 1922, to Mary Hill McCormack and Samuel Hillis McCormack, Nancy Jameson was the third of four children, all daughters. Her family immigrated to the United States
in 1925, and settled in Pennsylvania, near Scranton. There she attended high school and completed her nurses training at Moses Taylor Hospital. She joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in 1945, and served her country as an army nurse on the island of Okinawa, Japan, during World War II, where she met Neal Ellis Jameson, a marine fighter pilot from Los Angeles. They married in Scranton on August 15, 1948, and made their home in Hollywood.
There, Ms. Jameson attended both USC and UCLA, and received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from UCLA. She then worked as a public health nurse, while her husband served a second tour of duty in the Korean War as a helicopter evacuation pilot.
In the early 1960s, her husband, an engineer, got a job transfer that required the couple to move to Sens, France, with their young family.
They returned to the United States in the mid-sixties, and settled in Orange, Calif., where they lived until they moved into assisted living in May 2012. For many of those four-plus decades, Mrs. Jameson worked as a school nurse, “patching up every kid in the county.” She was also a mainstay in her church.
After losing her husband of 62 years, Mrs. Jameson moved to an assisted living facility in Lake Mary, Fla., last year to be near her daughter. She died there of age-related complications.
Known for her big-heart, and her big laugh, Mrs. Jameson was never too busy to listen, care and offer her sound advice and compassion. She was proud of her Scottish heritage, and could quickly take on a Scottish brogue, and she enjoyed hosting family celebrations, and sharing fellowship with her many friends.
She is remembered not only for her service to her country, and her contributions to the field of nursing, but also for her service to her community, church, and family.
Mrs. Jameson is survived by her two children, Craig Allen Jameson, of Culver City, Calif., and Nancy Marnell (Marni) Jameson Carey, of Winter Park, Fla.; her two grandchildren, Paige Elizabeth Roth and Marissa Campbell Roth; sister Margaret McCormack, of Chicago; daughter-in- law Chiqeeta Verban Jameson, son-in-law Douglas Carey; and loving friends.
Services were Wednesday at Fairhaven Memorial Park & Mortuary, in Santa Ana, where she has been laid to rest. Donations in her memory may be sent to Covenant Presbyterian Church of Orange.
