Born May 27, 1957 in Long Beach, California, Jeffrey Harry Katz was the eldest child of Arthur and Marilee Katz. He grew up in Anaheim with his three younger sisters Karen, Liz, and Amy. He attended Canyon High School, where he met Joan Weathers.
Jeff joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1975 at age 18, and then served a mission in Hamburg, Germany. When he came back from his mission, he married Joan and they went to BYU together. Studying business at BYU, he was accepted early to attend medical school in San Francisco. After finishing his training, he set up a private podiatry practice in Anaheim and Corona. He practiced medicine for 34 years, enjoying helping and chatting with his patients and working with staff that became like family.
Jeff was the best dad to his four children: Ben, David, Anna, and Kimberly. He could always be found on the sidelines of sports competitions and band concerts, wearing his trademark bright blue Jack's Surf sweatshirt. As his children grew and had children of their own, Jeff became the best Papa. He loved to wrestle his 10 grandkids and play sports with them in the backyard.
Jeff continued to be true to his faith throughout his life, serving his community in various capacities such as scouts with Ben and David and seminary teacher to Anna. He and Joan served a temple mission together to Nauvoo.
Jeff was a great athlete. He grew up playing baseball, played volleyball in high school, and softball as an adult. He ran over a hundred races, including marathons. He also loved outdoor sports like snow skiing at Mammoth and water skiing at Lake Powell.
Jeff had a deep and abiding love for music. He appreciated all genres but especially 70s rock. His encyclopedic knowledge of music led him to create many Top 10 lists and games of Name that Tune.
Jeff was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, doctor, and friend. He will be greatly missed.
