Jesse Clyde Moore Sr. was a kind, humble man who loved God, his kids, his family, people, and sports. Jesse was born August 4,1929 to Melinda and Alton Moore in Alexandria, Louisiana. Jesse was one of five brothers Eugene, George, Alton, and James, and three sisters Lillian, Deloris, and Dorothy, proceeded in death. Jesse grew up in Alexandria and attended Peabody High School where he played football. People started calling Jesse "JC" a name that stuck with him throughout his life.
Jesse fondly known as JC was united in holy matrimony to Frances Watson and from that union, four children were born Jesse Jr., Carlis, Dwight, and Stephanie. The family relocated to Detroit, Michigan in 1955.The Moore family became members of the historic Second Baptist Church in Detroit, Mi. where his brother Alton, was a Deacon and they were very active in the church.
JC and Frances separated with him remaining in Detroit and Frances and children moving to Reading Pa. Every summer JC would drive more than 8 hours one way from Detroit to Reading to pick up the "Big Four", a nickname he gave his children. He would drive to Detroit where the children would spend the summer with him. He loved his children and always supported them. Jesse Jr. played sports and JC would take the team to their games. On one occasion, he piled twelve children in a 1964 Buick Electra. Eight in the back seat, four sitting and four on their lap. Four sitting in the front seat with one on the floor under the dashboard. His belief was to leave no child behind.
JC would listen to the Detroit Tigers on his transistor radio. He also loved taking the children and their friends to see the Detroit Tigers especially on giveaway days like bat day, ball day, cap day and helmet day. Since the youth team didn’t have a sponsor, this is how they would get balls and bats to practice with.
At the end of the summer JC would take the drive back to Reading making sure the children had new school clothes and school supplies. This was his routine until Frances and children moved back to Detroit.
In 1973 JC was given the opportunity to move to California. He discussed with the Big 4, received their ok and the children assured him they would come visit. He prayed about it, God gave him the ok and JC relocated to Los Angeles, California. When he arrived in Los Angeles, he filled out one application with the Los Angeles Times in Costa Mesa, California which turned out to be his only job.
JC married Linda C. Ewing who has two sons Lawrence and Levertis Riley. Linda or Lynn remained his loving wife and caregiver until God called him to his heavenly home. After twenty-two years JC retired from the Los Angeles Times a company he loved working for.
He was very grateful for how far GOD had brought him and all he had done in his life and became a faithful member of Second Baptist Church of Santa Ana, Ca. This was a church attended by Stephanie who was actively involved. On Sundays Stephanie would stop by the house, pick daddy up and take him to church for 8:00 am Service. He loved listening to the choir and his gospel music.
JC was also a sports fan who followed all Detroit Teams. When he wasn’t able to attend sporting events anymore he kept up with sports on television. Even up in age, his mind stayed sharp. JC could discuss the highlights of the game, would play games with the family like dominoes and bingo. He also would play on his phone and his tablet which helped him stay focused. When Covid became a pandemic JC had so much fun playing family games with his children, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends on Zoom. He looked forward to Family Zoom Night. The family experienced so much joy interacting with him, sharing family stories, playing bingo and other online games. His strong memory kept the family legacy strong and filled with love.
On Monday December 9,2024 God called JC to his heavenly home. To cherish his legacy JC leaves a loving wife Linda C.
