

LaVerne Sidfrid was born in Hays, Kansas on May 16, 1929 to John Edward Sidfrid and Margaret Elizabeth (Beeby) Sidfrid and died on January 06, 2023 at his home in Orange, CA. He was the youngest of three children. He was known as “Sonny” to his family and “Sid” to his friends. He grew up near Topeka, KS graduating from Washburn Rural High School and Clark’s Business College in Topeka, KS. He later graduated from Western CUNA Management School. He met and married his wife, Dorothy (Kintigh) Sidfrid in Topeka, KS on January 24, 1951. He was drafted into the Army, entering in June 1951, served overseas in Germany and was discharged in May 1953. The family moved to Buena Park, California shortly after his discharge. Later moving to Anaheim, California and finally to Orange, California in 1961 where he resided for the remainder of his life.
He worked as an accountant for Dr. Beckman at Beckman Instruments in Fullerton, CA. Later establishing and managing the Beckman Employees Credit Union. While working at Beckman Employees Credit Union he was very active in the local, state and national credit union associations, serving as an officer and director on many boards. He left Beckman Employees Credit Union to become a Senior Vice President of the Service Corporation at the California Credit Union League.
Sid was very active at his church, Covenant Presbyterian. Serving as an elder, on the finance committee – doing financial reports even after retiring as an active elder. He and Dorothy worked many years with first the Senior Travel and later TNT (tours and travel) group setting up both day trips, short trips and an annual at least week long excursion. He was active in the Men’s Fellowship attending the Tuesday Morning Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study, the monthly Men’s Breakfast and the Men’s Retreats at Ironwood. For many years he was one of the cooks for the Tuesday Morning Men’s Bible Study. Sid was also actively involved in maintaining the Prayer Chain. First helping Dorothy and then Cheryl in maintaining and monitoring the prayer chain.
Sid and Dorothy had two children. Dennis LaVerne Sidfrid, born November 08, 1951 in Topeka, KS and Cheryl Ann Sidfrid born December 31, 1954 in Fullerton, CA. His son Dennis and wife Dorothy predeceased him. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl Sidfrid, daughter-in-law Becky Sidfrid, granddaughters Jillia Elizabeth (Sidfrid) White (John White) and Courtney Suzanne (Sidfrid) Hambrock (James Hambrock), great-grandchildren, Jocelyn Hambrock, Parker Hambrock, Griffin Hambrock, Landon Hambrock, Dylan White, Logan White and Ashley (Spicer) Winters and great-great-granddaughters Kylie Winters, Zoey Winters and Aubree Winters.
