Marilyn Miller Husen was born on November 17, 1923 to Alice Webster Miller and Edgar Bruno Miller in Portland, Oregon. She passed into her Lord and Savior's arms peacefully in her sleep on November 19, 2017 of natural causes.
Marilyn attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina and graduated from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon in 1945 with a BA in Music Performance. She taught high school English, worked as a clerical administrator for Adek, was employed by Directed Energy as a Personnel Manager, was a representative for Avon for many years and a homemaker for most of her life.
Marilyn was a devout Christian and a long time active member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Santa Ana. She lived her faith publicly and privately. Marilyn loved her involvement in the chancel choir and King's Class. She served as a Stephen's Minister and as the youth choir director at St. John's Church in Long Beach. She was a member of Tri Delta Sorority and PEO Chapter OI, active in Panellenic and PTA and served as a Cub Scout den mother.
Marilyn loved life and her family. She generously and indelibly enhanced the lives of others and will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. She was an amazing and strong woman who will be remembered for her adventurous, giving and selfless nature. Music was her passion and she was gifted with a voice like an angel. Hers was a rich journey measured not just by years, but also in quality, value and fulfillment. We will remember and cherish our mom for her beauty, generosity, kindness, but most of all her unconditional love of her family. Her devotion to her children was only matched by her faith and love of God.
She is now reunited with her beloved Carl. Our mom was not afraid to die because she knew she would see Carl again, and her family and friends. She was always interested in people, enjoyed sharing time with them and having fun. She spoke about the days when life would throw you a curve and you got up, put on your lipstick, combed your hair and you kept the band playing. Perhaps Mom's greatest gift was that she knew how to love.
Marilyn is survived by Linda Dorsey (Jim) of Corona, CA, Karen Baber (Bill) of Seattle, WA, Annette Matlock (Jack) of Eagle, ID and son Frank Riddick of Norman, OK, grandchildren Alicia Porsley, Willie Baber, Wesley Matlock, Jack Baber and Emily Beason, great-grandsons Jack Porsley, Carter Beason and Maverick Beason, niece Alice Dalrymple of Beaverton, OR, and former husband Frank Riddick, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Katharine Braden and spouse Carl Husen.
A memorial service for our precious mother will be held December 28, 2017 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Santa Ana at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please simply hug your loved ones, say a kind word to someone who is down, or pay it forward to someone in need. Mom would have liked that.
