Nancy Joy Hedrick, 85, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 31st at St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton after battling a variety of health issues. Nancy has lived almost her entire 85 years in the city of Orange. A proud graduate and supporter of Orange High School and any and all things Orange.
She was the daughter of Gerald and Virginia Shryock. Nancy spent 37 years as a loyal secretary for the Orange Unified Education Association. An additional 20 years of service with the Women’s Club of Orange as well. In 1937, as a charming 4-year-old girl she had the honor of turning on the lights to dedicate the new and current fountain in the Orange Plaza. She would have the honor again many years later during a re-dedication of the same fountain.
Nancy enjoyed many things in life especially her family and friends. She loved to read and correspond with beautiful notes and cards around all the holidays and birthdays for all those family, friends, and anyone she felt close to. Her penmanship was graceful and artistic. Baking treats was another prideful expression of her love for all of us. Her passion for cats and any and all related knick knack, note pads, and plush toys was rivaled only by her fierce loyalty for her “Anaheim” Angels. As a season ticket holder for nearly 40 years, she would enjoy many games with her husband Don by her side either at the games or comfortably in their recliners watching at home. She was also a member of the Angels Booster Club and could be seen handing out promotional items to fans prior to many games as well.
Nancy leaves behind her most loving and trusted friend, companion and husband of 65 years, Don. She is also survived by her three sons, Craig (wife Julie) Fairfield, Ca, Robert, Carmichael, Ca, and Dale, Orange, Ca. Grandsons, Sam, Jake and Derrick and granddaughter Kasey. She also leaves behind a great many loving family and friends who have been part of her spiritual support compass in life, including Molly her affectionate and inseparable cat.
Throughout her life, Nancy had an incredible spirit and fondness for everyone she knew. Something that will be deeply missed by all. She was and will remain a beautiful and remarkable companion, wife, mother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald, mother Virginia, and sister Sharon.
