

Richard Glenn McCarter, 90, of Orange, CA, passed away at home on April 29, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was born to St. Ira and Wiona (Creed) McCarter in Waxahachie,Texas. Richard and the family moved to Orange when he was just 4 years old. He attended elementary schools in Orange and graduated from Orange High School, where he played on the varsity baseball and basketball teams all four years. Richard still holds basketball shooting records at Orange High School. He then graduated from Chapman University as an accomplished athlete and obtained his degree in education. He had a career in Teaching for over 40 years. He taught Physical Education and Science and coached countless sports teams throughout his career.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Meredith (Bates). He is survived by his son David McCarter, his daughters Kelly Marietta and Karen McCarter, his six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Richard was an avid nature lover and enjoyed fishing and camping. In his later years, he was a member of the Orange Historical Society and gave “tree tours” to point out the notable trees in Orange. He loved to say that his avocado tree was the largest in town and enjoyed sharing his bounty of avocados with all of his neighbors and friends. He was also a proud member of the Elks Club of Orange.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers from Homewatch CareGivers of Orange and everyone from Providence Hospice.
A private memorial service will be held later this month.
