Roy Cleveland Chapman was born December 8, 1958 in Midland Texas to his parents Grover and Cecelia Chapman. Roy went to be with the lord on October 23, 2021 unexpectedly at home while watching his favorite sport, baseball.
Later in life, Roy’s family moved to Orange County where Roy found his love for baseball. Roy lived in Orange County for the remainder of his life and played baseball from little league through college and was always the all-star player. He was known for having a rocket arm and breaking lots of records.
In March of 1986, he met the love of his life, Sarah Jacques, which he lovingly calls wifey. They met on a blind date setup by a dear mutual friend which at first were both opposed to. After a little over one year together, they got married on April 11, 1987. Yes, it was love at first sight for both they had a wonderful life and were married for 35 years and raised 3 amazing children together.
In November of 2000, Roy followed in his father & younger brother’s footsteps. He accepted a position in Long Beach with Weatherford. For the next 21 years, Roy was fortunate to meet many amazing friends at Weatherford. Many of these friends are now considered family to Roy’s wife and kids and they will forever be thankful for them.
Roy’s family was his whole world! Though his job could be very demanding and there were many times he’d be on 24-hour on-call shifts, he ALWAYS managed to make it to his daughter and son’s baseball or softball games. Roy NEVER missed a game, oil filled shirt and all!
Throughout his life, Roy enjoyed his many passions such as fishing, skiing, skeet shooting, softball, tennis, diving, photography, videography, drone flying, coaching, and of course watching baseball.
Later in life the highlight of Roy’s weekends was working on his wood projects in the garage while listening to country or 80s music. He built many items for family, friends and neighbors. To name a few of his creations were beautiful cutting boards, picnic tables, wall book cases, etc. Roy would always say “if you want it, get a picture for me and I’ll build it.” Roy was the envy of all his neighbors because he had an entire carpenter’s shop in his garage but he could still park two cars.
He is survived by his wife Sarah, son Ryan and his wife Leslie, daughter Kristine and her fiancé David, daughter Jesenia and her husband Jimmie. Grandchildren are Nichole, Andrew, Norah and Sutton. Great grandchild is Matias. He is also survived by his brothers Rick and his wife Joy, brother Jake and his wife Donna, Ron and his wife Jamie as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and in-laws.
If you knew him and spent time with him, you probably loved him! His Family could not have asked for a more selfless loving husband, Dad, grandfather, brother, uncle, brother in-law, father in-law and son-in-law.
We will miss him every day until we are together again. Meanwhile, we promise (in your words) to stay humble, be responsible and accountable, do the right thing, live a good life and get up and go to work every day! “Let’s get ‘er done”
