Sita Dara was born into a reputed family in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh on May 12, 1942 to Batchu Suryanarayana Murthy and Satyavati. She competed her SSLC at the MSN Charities High School, and her Pre-university Course at P.R. College for a BA in Economics through home schooling because she was married. She was married on February 11, 1959 to D.N.Lingam of Vijayanagaram, who had just returned from Japan with an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Osaka University. He spoke and wrote good Japanese. She lived in Delhi and Kotah, Rajasthan where her husband was on his maiden job with DCM Chemicals. Soon he would get a job offer from Air India as an Assistant Station Superintendent and a posting in Kolkata which was the beginning of a 35 year long and distinguished career at work and an illustrious standing in society. Given his postings in Kuwait, Madras, Chennai and finally Tokyo as an airline executive overseeing Japan, Korea, South India, Sri Lanka, Sita had enjoyed herself transferring through all these postings as a homemaker and developed a wide perspective on the world — much wider in scope than a BA in Economics would ever be able to equip her in life with.
Sita is succeeded by four daughters; Dr. Radhika Boda (Adelaide, AUS), Madhavi (San Jose), Sravani Borra (Nashville), and Sangeetha (Los Angeles); her sons-in law, Dr. Seshu Boda and Himakar Borra and grandchildren Aishwarya, Akhilesh (19), Gagana (19), Divakar (17), Sanvi (13) and Ronak (12). Sita became a naturalized American citizen on Dec 16, 2015 which was a proud moment for her. She had an older sibling Shobha in Minneapolis who has two sons; Prakash and Baji Puram who are Sita’s ‘adopted’ sons. She is also survived by a brother in Hyderabad, India who has a son and two daughters and spouses, who are all engineers in Silicon Valley. Her dearest sibling is her younger sister Lakshmi Batchu who cared dearly for her sister Sita through her ups and downs of her Parkinson ’s disease.
Sita enjoyed traveling worldwide in her younger days and having people and friends over to her house and loved cooking for them and making sure they were well fed. She always had an open door policy where anyone could come in anytime for a meal or to stay overnight. Sita passed away Friday, February 25, 2020 at 8:55 pm of a cardiac arrest and trauma.
Thank you for your attendance at this funeral service. We really appreciate it.
In my mom's memory, I would like to create a rose garden in my backyard to honor her deep love and passion for flowers. Given the customs and traditions of our culture, we do not take back anything that is in the funeral home including any flowers you may bring for the family. In lieu of bringing flowers, I would appreciate a rose plant or any other living plant post-funeral services that we can be reminded of her love for posterity.
See below for service details.
