
Sonya was born in Seattle, WA on June 22, 1932 to Henry and Anita Hulme. She was the much-loved little sister to Richard and Jerry. The family left Seattle for Pasadena, CA when Sonya was a young child and then on to Palm Springs CA, where she graduated from Palm Springs High School. Sonya was Queen of the Rodeo in Palm Springs in 1950. The family then moved to Garden Grove, CA. where she attended college and worked as a bank teller.
Sonya married Charles “Bud” Britton December 22, 1957. Sonya and Bud lived in Tulsa, OK and Kissimmee, FL. After returning to California Sonya and Bud adopted their daughter Kristen, joining Bud's son Randy from a previous marriage. Sonya continued her work in banking and became a loan officer, and later worked for the Automobile Club of Southern California. After living briefly in Santa Ana, CA, Lubbock TX, Fullerton, CA, San Diego, CA and Laguna Beach, CA, Sonya and Bud finally settled in Mission Viejo in 1984 where they spent the remainder of their lives.
After her retirement from the Auto Club in 1997, Sonya followed her passion and volunteered over 1,000 hours at the Mission Viejo Animal shelter caring for cats and kittens.
Sonya is survived by her daughter Kristen (Jerome) Claussen, her son Randy Britton, and four grandchildren; Joshua, Andrew, Sarah and Caleb Claussen, and numerous nieces and nephews. Sonya was preceded in death by her husband Charles Britton, her parents, Henry and Anita Hulme, her brothers Richard and Jerry Hulme.
Friends and Family are invited to attend the memorial service at 10AM November 10th, 2018 at Fairhaven Memorial Park Chapel 1702 Fairhaven Avenue, Santa Ana, CA 92705 and to join us for a No-Host lunch and a time to visit and remember at El Torito Restaurant 17420 17th St, Tustin, CA 92780 immediately following.
