

Surendra Bahadur Sahgal was born on October 19, 1938 in Hyderabad, India. He was the eldest son of Shivender Bahadur Sahgal and Sumitra Bai Pershad. A strong family man, he assumed the role of patriarch for his four siblings, following his father’s death at a young age. He emigrated from India to the United States in 1960 to complete his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering at the University of Kansas. In 1965, he completed his Master of Science in Industrial Relations from Loyola University in Chicago, IL. His career spanned 45 years, in both the private sector and the U.S. Air Force. He retired in 2006 from the Defense Contract Management Agency after 32 years and was awarded an honorary plaque and flag commemorating his years of service.
Outside of his professional life, he lived in Corona, CA for over 38 years and was a devout Hindu and follower of Satya Sai Baba. Among his family members and friends, he was considered a pillar of the Hindu community and Inland Empire and was one of the founding members of the Laxmi Narayan Mandir in Riverside, CA.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lalita Sahgal, son, Samir Bahadur Sahgal, daughter-in-law, Sujata Sahgal and two grandchildren, Sonan Bahadur Sahgal and Supriti Karina Sahgal. He is also survived by his younger brother and sister and numerous family members.
