Born in Switzerland, Violette spent her early years surrounded by the beauty of her homeland. It was there, on the shores of Lake Geneva, that she met her beloved husband, Dr. Badie Halim Helmy. The two married on May 13, 1951, beginning a remarkable life together that took them across the globe. They lived in Morocco and Egypt before eventually settling in Pasadena, California, where Violette worked alongside her husband in his medical practice for many years.
Violette was known for her warmth, grace, and zest for life. She had a deep love of flowers and gardening—sunflowers, roses, and daisies were among her favorites, as were mimosa, gardenia, and angel’s trumpet bushes. She also enjoyed cooking, traveling, shopping, and spending cherished time with her family. A devoted fan of tennis and hockey, she never hesitated to cheer from the sidelines. She found joy in Disneyland trips with her loved ones, where her playful spirit shone through.
Her favorite colors—yellows, oranges, and shades of green that matched her eyes—reflected her vibrant personality. Leopard print often found its way into her wardrobe, adding her signature flair. True to her roots, Violette adored the Swiss Mountains and she had an enduring love of Swiss chocolate, as well as the simple pleasure of fresh baguette with butter and cheese.
Violette is survived by her daughter, Sonia Helmy-Dentzel, and her husband, Dana Carl Dentzel, as well as her cherished granddaughters, Catalina Dentzel Helmy and Belen Dentzel Kircher and her husband Joseph Kircher. She will be remembered with great love and admiration by all who knew her.
