Obituary for Ynez Cuevas Ynez Cuevas passed peacefully, on Wednesday June 26, 2017. He was 78. Ynez was born on April 20, 1939, in Stanton, California to parents Louis and Mercedes. He was the fourth child of six. His siblings included: Tony, Mike, Emilia, Rudy, Connie and Stanley. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his siblings, for the exception of his loving sister Emilia Ramirez. He is survived by his children: Rudy, Tony, James, Alesia, Ruben and Gina. 8, grandchildren; and 4, great-grandchildren. We will cherish his memory, and all of his hilarious sayings. My father would always jokingly say, he went to “Gladiator School,” in San Francisco for many years. He always had plenty stories about his “school days.” He married Helen Agundez in 1974, and they made their home in Santa Ana. My father had a “green-thumb,” and was always happiest amongst his plants and his Dobermans’. His love of the outdoors definitely rubbed off on all of us. Ynez lived much longer than he ever anticipated. He would always tell me he never thought he would get this old- finally he fit his nickname, “Viejo.” If you heard any of his stories you know he cheated death more than once. Beginning as a child, when his brother Mike would shoot at him with “homemade guns,” to test it out, and he would take cover behind a tree. He never remarried after the passing of his beloved wife Helen, but Mary Jane had and always remained constant in his life. I will not be inserting a heartfelt or inspirational quote here, because if you knew my dad, none of his quotes would be appropriate for the situation. Therefore, in its place I will put a few lyrics of his favorite song, “Trouble Man” by Marvin Gaye. He always said this song was him. “I come up hard baby, but now I’m cool I didn’t make it sugar, playin’ by the rules I come up hard baby, but now I’m fine I’m checkin’ trouble sugar, movin’ down the line.”
