July 17, 1925 - Dec. 17, 2010
Longtime Resident
of Saratoga
Bernice, 85, passed away after a brief illness despite her strength and tenacity. She is survived by her loving husband Alfonso Gil Vasquez II of 62 years, son Alfonso Gil Vasquez III (spouse Hazel) and daughter Jill D. Wertman (spouse Boyd), grandchildren Jennifer Vasquez Brush, Alfonso Gil Vasquez IV (spouse Danea) and John A. Wertman, and great grandchildren Ethan and Roman Brush. God children Kathy America, Robert Mano and David Wells.
Bernice was born into a culturally rich family in Santa Clara, to Joseph Tarolla (Italy) and Margaret Correia (Santa Clara), as one of three daughters. Preceded by sisters Geraldine Garcia and Kathrine Tranchina. As a small child, Bernice loved to sit and draw. It was only natural; she became a commercial artist after finishing at San Jose State. She worked in downtown San Jose as a display and advertise artist for several years. After marrying Al, she enjoyed sewing, gardening and creating a loving home environment for her two children. Her artistic flare was carried throughout her life. Together they enjoyed traveling across the United States and Europe, and are long time members of the Los Viajaros camp club.
Services held Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at 11 am at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery Chapel at 490 Lincoln Street, Santa Clara. Donations preferred to local hospice.
