

Bertha Alvarado Flores quietly passed away in her sleep on April 30, 2018, having been briefly hospitalized for a broken hip incurred in a fall. She had been suffering with dementia for a number of years.
Bertha was born in Douglas, Arizona. She moved with her family to Bakersfield, California following World War II. After her marriage to Willie Flores they became longtime residents of Santa Clara.
Bertha had worked for JC Penny as a teen and continued in the notions department in San Jose and Mt. View. She also worked for Fairchild at the beginning of electronics in the Valley, retiring from Unisys (Memorex).
Bertha’s big love was baseball. She loved playing, but particularly loved the San Francisco Giants! We all spent many afternoons at Candlestick Park. Win or lose - that was her team!
Bertha’s parents, Maria Jesus and Joe Alvarado, siblings Vicken, Conchi, Cora, Ralph, Mauro and Manuel, husband Willie and son Stephen preceded her in death. She leaves behind siblings Lucy (Baldimor), Robert (Ramona) Alvarado and Teresa Orozco. Surviving her are daughters Yolanda (Bill) McLean and Catherine Gonzales. Bertha also leaves grandsons Jefery McBee, Bill McLean (Kim), Jonathan Flores (Cathleen), Michael McLean (Anita), David Gonzales (Allison) and Stephen McLean (Justine). She was the great-grandmother to Joseph, Maeghan, Jacob, Alyssa, Sarah, Olivia, Carrie, Jordan, Maverick, Ella, William, Harper and Logan. Bertha is also survived by sister -in-laws Sara and Angie Alvarado and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Kim Brusco for taking such loving care and giving Bertha friendship as well as love . We are eternally thankful. The family also thanks St. Anne’s Home, especially Nush, Renae and Crystal and the staff at Renown Hospital South Meadows, particularly Jennifer, for the care they gave Bertha and the family during this time.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a contribution to an Alzheimer’s organization. Such as: the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA)
A reception lunch will follow at Mariani's, 2500 El Camino in Santa Clara.
