Betty passed away peacefully in the early hours last Saturday. Betty was born in Little Rock, AK and her family moved to California in 1940. She graduated from San Jose High in 1949. In 1948 she met Sam Lupo, the love of her life and her best friend, and they married in 1950. They lived and loved their lives together for 63 years, raising three children. The family moved to Boulder Creek in 1969 to run their grocery store, Johnnie’s Super, which they owned and operated for 38 years.Betty enjoyed bowling and won many trophies for her talent. She was adept at sewing and made many pieces of clothing for her children and some fantastically detailed clothing for her daughters’ Barbie dolls. She enjoyed golf with her husband and friends, and loved her SF Giants, making a point to get to at least one game a year. Betty also made extensive photo albums, chronicling their travel adventures around the globe. Betty was a great mother, instilling good wholesome values to her three children through her words and daily examples. For each person she met, she left a lasting impression for some wonderful reason. Betty valued family above all. Sundays were family days. At these gatherings, the house was filled with the sounds of happiness, and the aromas and flavors of a wonderful Italian dinner. It is comforting to know that Betty thoroughly enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up to be the fine young adults they have become. It is plain to see Betty’s wholesome family values have been passed down to her grandchildren, being one of her greatest legacies.Betty loved to laugh and brought joy to all she knew. We cherish Betty’s gentle and loving nature, and will forever miss her smile and hugs. Betty’s great love and affection will be dearly missed as life will surely not be the same without her.Betty is preceded in death by her son, Greg. She is survived by her husband Sam, daughters Karen (Dirk) and Cheryl, grandson Kyle (Shyla), and granddaughter Kelly. She will also be missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.Visitation on Fri Nov 15, 5-9 (6pm Rosary) at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary.
