Carolyn June Mauro, born on November 8, 1942 in Hayward, CA, passed away on October 9, 2024 in Chandler, AZ, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband Leo, sons Christopher and Gregory, daughters-in-law Christina and Sheri, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is also survived by two of her brothers, Larry Emory and Louis Emory, along with their wives and children. She is predeceased by her brother David Emory.
Carolyn moved to Sunnyvale, CA, graduated from De Anza High School, and started working at NASA-Ames Research Center, where she met Leo. They married in 1968. Together they moved to San Jose, CA, where they spent the next 52 years, relocating to Chandler, AZ in 2020.
Carolyn was a woman of unshakable faith, who braved a number of chronic illnesses that left her in constant pain for the last 40 years of her life. She had a sense of humor that helped her through the more painful days. Through her example, she taught all of us the meaning of love, forgiveness, perseverance, and sacrifice. She loved to sing, and participated in numerous activities related to singing, from Christmas caroling groups at NASA-Ames, to being in a singing group at her retirement community up until her passing. Both she and Leo loved Johnny Mathis and all his songs, attending their last concert of his only a few months ago.
Carolyn loved Christmas. She loved and worshipped the true significance of the holiday. She especially loved Christmas decorations, several of which she kept up all year round. It will be impossible to see anything Christmas-related in the future and not think of her.
Carolyn will be deeply missed, but lovingly remembered, by all who knew her. We take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, free from pain and in the arms of God.
