Elizabeth Jane Greer was born March 28, 1934 and died peacefully on September 4, 2013 at the age of 79. Elizabeth, who went by the name “Betty”, was born and raised in the beautiful city of San Francisco. She was one of eight children, from a wonderful, large Irish-Catholic family and is survived by her brother, Timothy King.
Betty married in 1954, started her own family of five and moved to Santa Clara. Recently losing her oldest son, Michael, she will be missed by her loving family; daughter-in-law Sandy; daughter Theresa D’Audney and her husband Bill; son, Steve and his wife Terri; daughter Susan Foster and her husband Nathan; and daughter Karen Cote. She was loved and will be fondly remembered by many grandchildren: Mike’s three children, Adam and his significant other Elena, Ashley and Alex; Theresa’s two sons, Nicholas and his significant other Emily and David; Steve’s four daughters, Erin, Kelly and her significant other Doug, Danielle and Alexis; Susan’s two daughters, Elizabeth and Nicole and Karen’s two sons, Brandon and Jesse. Betty also had three great-grandchildren: Kelly’s daughter, Malia; Adam’s daughter, Addison and Nick’s son, Jack. She was also the proud aunt of many nieces, and nephews.
After Betty’s divorce in 1965, she returned to school to obtain her Associates Degree at West Valley College. She carried 18 units per semester and maintained straight A’s, all while working at Fairchild Semiconductor and raising five children.
Shortly thereafter, Betty became the secretary to the Superintendent of Parks and Recreation at the City of Sunnyvale where she worked for 29 years before retiring.
Betty’s favorite past time was holidays, family parties and dancing at one of the many weddings of our large and spirited family. Another enjoyment of hers was sitting at the sidelines of whatever sporting event her five children were involved in and, whenever possible, one of her thirteen grandchildren.
Betty will always be remembered for being the “Number 1 Fan” at all of her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.
