May 30, 1913 – July 19, 2011
Grandma passed on the morning of July 19. Born Fanny Amato in Omaha, Nebraska May 30, 1913. At age 17, Grandma moved to California with her family and soon met Sam Moretti. They were married Christmas Eve, 1933.
They would be married until Grandpa’s death two months shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. Grandma gave birth to twins, a son, Camille, and a daughter, Lucille. As the children grew, Grandma went back to work at Blackford High School in the cafeteria. Grandma would become the staff manager.
For the next 30 years, Grandma worked the kitchen and cafeteria keeping teenagers in line and respectful of her staff, who she referred to as “her girls.” During this time, Lucille married Vincent Serra and had two children. Alec and Vincent Jr. Camille married Henrietta Panyagua, who had three boys, Michael, Mark, and David. The five grandchildren were absolutely blessed in the eyes of Fanny and Sam. Grandma would be seen at all of the boys’ baseball games. Many times she could be “heard” at said games. Grandma became a legend in the history of Union Little League as she set straight any umpire who would dare to wrong her boys or their team. As time passed, her “boys” would give her great grandchildren.
First, there was Justin, then Kyle. Anthony followed and Andre rounded out her new boys. The great grandchildren would be loved as their fathers were. Grandma looked forward to feeding all of her boys. She would make sure that she always had favorite snacks of each child in her kitchen.
Grandma in her last moments of lucidity would ask for “the little one.” She wanted to see Andre one more time. The pain from a broken hip and 98 years under her belt weighed heavily on her. Grandma was tired, so I told her to rest and that we would always remember how much she loved us.
