August 8, 1941 to September 19, 2013
Hector was a hard working husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He left behind his wife Gloria Lebow, daughter Tonya Chavez, son Hector Lastra Jr. and siblings; Domingo Lastra, Sara Lara, Connie Aguilar, Jennie Padilla, and Josey Bracamonte. He had four grandchildren Karina, Anthony, Hunter and Gavin Lastra and great granddaughter Lilliana Gadley.
Papa was a man with an intimidating presence that would leave you scared when you first met him. Growing up, most of my friends would be too frightened to come to the door. But once they got to know him, they realized he was a softy who could always make them laugh. He would joke with everyone. Even on his last days here, he would still crack jokes with the all nurses and doctors.
Papa retired from Ford early, so he was able to help raise his grandchildren and be a part of their lives. He also loved working in his shop, and would make furniture and other items needed around the house. He was a great cook, just like many of the other Lastra men.
He really enjoyed his time alone in the house. He would say he didn’t like the drama friends and family bring; saying it destroys family so it is better to keep your distance, but be there for your family in a time of need.
Those who knew him loved him, and if you needed advise on anything from life to how to do something, he was your man. He was a sweet man and will be missed tremendously.
A Memorial Celebration of Hector's life will be held Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 N Winchester Blvd. in Santa Clara.
