On 30th September 2021, Irma M Morris entered into eternal rest. Irma was born 24th September 1924 in El Salvador to Miguel and Rosa “Chita” DePineda. At a young age, she joined her family in San Francisco, CA. Irma lived through many historical events including the Great Depression, World War II, and 16 Presidents. Her incredible life made her a fountain of knowledge and advice for her loved ones. Irma proved to be a gifted orator, winning an award from the City of San Francisco as a teenage girl. This earned her a role as a radio soap opera actress. Irma was also a great beauty and was one of the first billboard models (in color) in San Francisco. She took courses at University of California, Berkeley for engineering and was hired by the Army Corp of Engineers. During her time there, she helped with major projects including acting as an ambassador to Mexico to help with international roads and maps. She also worked for Rand McNally and the U.S. Geological Survey. She was an accomplished cartographer and, as one of the first female editors, was a pioneer for women in her industry and the workforce as a whole.
From her first marriage, Irma brought two amazing children into the world – her daughter Linda and her son Michael. In the early 60s, Irma moved to Santa Clara with her children and her mother. Shortly before she moved, Irma met the love of her life, Robert Morris, who would eventually become her second husband. Their love was truly something to behold and aspire to.
Irma was remarkable in every aspect of life, whether it was cooking, crafts, or dancing, her accomplishments were only rivaled by her generosity and grace.
Irma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son. She is survived by her sister Margo, her daughter Linda, eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and hundreds of extended family and friends. Her legacy will live on and she will be sorely missed.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary.
