Born in Menominee, Michigan, September, 1, 1935. Passed peacefully after 86 years, September 2, 2021. After his father’s passing he relocated to San Jose at age 16. He met the love of his life Claudette, through a mutual friend. They dated, then married in 1956 and started their family right away.
Those left to treasure his memories are his beloved wife of 65 years, Claudette. Children: Lynn (Tom) Bauer, Debra (Rooty) Van Overen and John (Ann) Sturgeon. Grandchildren: Kellen (Emi) Bauer, Jordan (Chelsea) Bauer, Andrew and Matthew. Great Grandchildren Luna, Aubrey, Reina and Henri.
John worked for Ma Bell from age 21 till retirement at age 51. He held many titles during his years there. His favorite was managing underground construction.
John was instrumental in starting the first Catholic folk Masses in San Jose. At that time, these folk masses were very controversial. His most valued lifelong spiritual friendships were his fellow music ministers. Throughout his life he lived his Catholic faith through his many ministries; delivering eucharist, continuing his music ministry, presenting at Marriage Encounter weekends for new couples, as well as Men's Cursillo.
He loved to travel and camp with the trailer. John and family travelled the country, packed into a small RV towed behind Myrtle —the family station wagon. Later, John and Claudette took several summer long trips across The United States and Canada.
There wasn’t a job around the house that John wouldn’t tackle, becoming an expert in every home maintenance task.
John was a loving and generous man of great faith.
His example of how to live life influenced everyone who knew him.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life on Saturday, September 25, 2021 with Rosary at 12:00 p.m. and Memorial Mass at 12:30pm at Santa Teresa Church.
