Levio William Traina passed away peacefully at his home on February 3, 2016 at the age of 92. He was pre-deceased by his wife Helen Traina, Italian immigrant father Joseph Traina, mother Maria Traina, siblings Justin Traina, Anthony Traina, Marion Martini and Josephine Pyne, and niece Carolyn Staton. Born on September 25, 1923, a native of San Jose, Levio grew up on a ranch with apricots, prunes, cherries and walnuts located on Bascom Avenue. He attended Campbell Grammar School and graduated from Campbell High. Working and playing on the ranch with his siblings the five of them formed a close and loving bond that would last for the rest of their lives. During World War II he served his nation honorably in the Army Air Forces as a Corporal, 4th Air Repair Squadron. Returning home, Levio was employed in the grocery industry working for several local stores primarily as a produce manager. It was a career that reflected his love of fresh fruits and vegetables. He went on to acquire investment properties that he managed until his death. Levio lived a full life. His passions included tending to his garden with its many fruit trees, spirited conversations, telling stories of the family’s history and driving his Jaguar. He took an active interest in the family ranch and his properties in Patterson, splitting his retirement years between that community and his home in San Jose. Levio loved spending time with his family and he took joy in being an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. But most of all, Levio loved his brothers and sisters with a fierce intensity and we are certain they were there to welcome him upon his passing. The family wishes to thank his caregivers, Fely Anastasia and Lita Verceles, and Hospice of the Valley for providing comfort and care to Levio. Levio Traina is survived by his sister-in-law, Josephine Traina, nieces and nephews – Joan Martini (Lesley), Mary Sexton, Joseph Martini (Karen), Joseph Traina (Melissa), George Pyne (Debbie), Mary Jo Rodolfa (Emil), Melinda Foster (Mike), Joel Traina (Vicki), Victoria Polatnick (David) and William Traina (Raquel), his step-sons Bill Shrader and Bob Shrader, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 N Winchester Blvd, Santa Clara, CA 95050, (408) 296-2977.
